It is already illegal to sell products and claim them as Indian products if you are not of a tribe, enrolled in a tribe. We wish to also make it illegal to mislead people into buying products by using ad word searches to lure people to a site. Example "I google Native American Headress and False headdresses appear for sale."

You can try it for yourself. Google Authentic Native Headress and you will find yourself in a world of fake feathers.

They use the ad words and tags to claim products as Indian crafts which is dishonest to the buyer, offensive to our culture and disrespectful to our people.

The Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 (P.L. 101-644) is a truth-in-advertising law that prohibits misrepresentation in marketing of American Indian or Alaska Native arts and crafts products within the United States. It is illegal to offer or display for sale, or sell any art or craft product in a manner that falsely suggests it is Indian produced, an Indian product, or the product of a particular Indian or Indian Tribe or Indian arts and crafts organization, resident within the United States.

This law is already in place but it needs to have new things added to it because times have changed. We need to always strive to update the protection of our culture as the technology changes. Misinformed people need to be informed. It is our time to do what is needed of us.

Thank you.
