Groveport Madison administration has made the decision to hold the May 25th, 2018 graduation ceremony on the school’s new turf field that alumnus Le’Veon Bell generously donated earlier this year. Although the new field is lovely and greatly appreciated, the bleachers can only hold so many, immensely limiting the number of people that each student can invite.

The class of 2018 has been expecting a ceremony that the whole family could attend since their freshman year. Many fellow students also wish to attend the ceremony and there would be little available room. Parking is already a challenge during sporting events, and that’s with the stands half full. Many students have already expressed great disdain for this location and would rather continue to rent out the Celeste Center as we have done in the past. It is understood that the field has been used for graduation ceremonies before, but the Celeste Center has been the location for many years and it has gone quite smoothly there. The Celeste Center Arena is built to seat over 10,000 and has no problem seating all the eager friends and relatives that come to see their student take their next step toward the future.

Weather conditions will also affect the ceremony if it remains outside. Rain will force a rescheduling and cause many possible conflicts. The Celeste Center, however, is conveniently located indoors with working air conditioning.

I urge you to sign this petition for the betterment of the Groveport Madison senior class and their loving families. High school graduation only occurs once in someone’s life and we hope for the ceremony to be as comfortable and enjoyable for everyone as it has been in the past.

Thank you!
