Demand that Plastic Cutlery be Banned from Restaurants

No Photo

Opened on February 19, 2018

The Task: Demand that restaurant chains find an alternative to disposable plastic cutlery.

The Problem: As a planet we throw away over 500 million plastic straws each day. We also dump around 8 million tons of single use plastic into our oceans each year.

These single use spoons, forks, and knives have an incredibly short usage time, however they stay around our planet for hundreds of years. It takes over 100 years for plastic spoon to break down after they have been dumped into our oceans, threating our marine life.

Straws and cutlery easily find their way into the digestive systems of marine lives, and typically end their lives, depleting already struggling species quickly. Studies have also shown that humans are consuming plastic fragments that are first ingested by fish.

The Solution: Large fast food chains need to lead an industry wide change. There are fast food giants that can stop utilizing single use plastic straws and cutlery and force the other chains to follow. This small change will eliminate hundreds of millions of pieces daily!

Join us! And let’s fight to stop single use plastic from winding up in our oceans and killing our sea life!

Here at Live Your Aloha, we believe our oceans are meant for snorkeling in Molokini and scuba diving, not for a dumping plastic. Visit to learn about our snorkeling tours, and how we work with the sea life to provide a safe and friendly way for our readers to explore the oceans of Hawaii!
